Victorious- side view by Fenris Lorsrai

He had his ear chewed off in a vicious forum flame war over who was copying who, was painted as the bad guy, but eventually emerged victorious against the art pirates and reclaimed his booty!

This is for all the artists who have been the victims of art pirates. Strap on your bandoleer of paint, paint the good fight, prove who the real artist is and you too shall emerge Victorious!

You can just see the shape of the ear stump under his bandages. For art trivia nerds, YES, it is on the correct side for Van Gogh. His painting was originally sculpted and painted separately, then tucked under his arm during sculpting. (yes, it is indeed a big blue booty. art pirates love booty)

ApoxieSculpt (synthetic clay), painted in acrylic. Original available for sale through Etsy:

Monster of rock- front view by Fenris Lorsrai

Straight from their smash Haggis tour, give it up for LUST MUTTON!!!

This lycanthrope is ready to make his electric guitar howl all night long.

Yes, that is a sheep in high heels wearing lipstick on his shirt. The tour dates on his shirt are actual tour dates of shows he'll be in over the next year, unless somebody decides he needs to doa guitar solo for them at home.

Monster of Rock is 10" tall (25CM) at top of ears and roughly 7" (18CM) across the widest part of his base. He is freestanding, no base. (he was just posed on one for the photoshoot)

ApoxieSculpt (a synthetic clay) over a wire skeleton... plus balls of steel. He has steel weights in his feet so he can freestand. Painted in acrylic and sealed with krylon.

iNipper- Did I hear something? by Fenris Lorsrai

Did I just hear something on my ipod? could that be my master's voice?

Alright, the photo is slightly overexposed, but it showed off Nipper's expression and perked ears nicely, along with giving a clear view of the picture he's looking at in the book. Photography, not my strong point.

iNipper is ApoxieSculpt, painted with acrylic. He's roughly 8 inches long.

iNipper by Fenris Lorsrai

Nipper listens to his ipod while reviewing some history...

Possibly the most time consuming part of painting this sculpture was reproducing "His Master's Voice" in Nipper's book. While not a perfect hair-by-hair copy, the painting is well enough known to be recognizable even when simplified and reproduced at less than an inch square.

And no, your eyes do not deceive you, Nipper even has belt loops! and seams on his clothing!

Oinker's Big Moka- overhead view by Fenris Lorsrai

Two boar's prepare for a festival, with the older boar painting the younger warrior's face for him.

Costumes are based on traditional festival garb from Papua New Guinea, though a bit more subdued than what you'd find at festivals these days. The title for the piece comes from a video (ongka's Big Moka) I was forced to watch over and over and over while getting my anthropology degree. I think they made you watch it in every class. Apparently I am not the only person who had to suffer through the only video ever made on moka ceremonies as the band Toploader named an album after it. Go fig.

Sculpture is done in ApoxieSculpt and painted in acrylic with natural sand on the base. The shine on the shell decorations, eyes, and snouts was done with clear glue.

Medium: ApoxieSculpt (synthetic clay), acrylic
Tags: new sculpture guinea costume boar pig festival facepainting
Oinker's Big Moka- facepainting by Fenris Lorsrai

A boar helps a younger warrior paint his face for a festival.

The costumes and the face paint are based on traditional new guinea ceremonial garb, which tends to be very eclectic and very, very bright. The face paint seems really, really gaudy, but this is not all that outrageous! Face painting is usually done in extremely pure, primary colors. Yellow is a more common base, but I find several variations on the red, white and, blue motif. (google New Guinea festival to see really cool pictures of face paint and really, really crazy outfits)

Medium: ApoxieSculpt (synthetic clay), acrylic
Tags: new sculpture guinea costume boar pig festival ceremonial facepainting
Pi-Rat by Fenris Lorsrai

A pirate (or pi-rat if you prefer) shades his eyes as he scans the horizon for his next conquest. Freestanding sculpture in ApoxieSculpt standing approximately 5" tall.

The stitching on his patchwork vest was all done by hand. It took about an hour to do all that detail. The underlying frame for the vest is actually just masking tape cut to shape, with ApoxieSculpt layered over it in a thin veneer. I actually sculpted the vest as a separate piece and then dressed him while it was still wet and drying.

Piece has been sold. In private collection.

Medium: ApoxieSculpt (synthetic clay), acrylic
Tags:
Think Big by Fenris Lorsrai

Little rat, big dreams! Just because the basketball is almost as big as you are doesn't mean you can't be as great a player as the big guys. Work hard, think big.

I particularly love how delicate yet powerful his hands and feet are. He's clearly got a good grip on that ball and has a lot of power in his legs, yet they look so cute and delicate. Real rats have such darling little hands and feet, that they translated very well for an anthropomorphic version.

He is a freestanding sculpture that balance on two tiny little feet. He came with a little wooden basketball "court" to pose him on.

Piece has been sold.

Medium: ApoxieSculpt (synthetic clay), acrylic
Tags: rat sculpture rodent sports basketball
Comfort- detail by Fenris Lorsrai

A hyena mother pulls her distraut cub up onto her lap to give her a kiss and make it all better.

detailed view. See gallery for full body photograph.

Overhead showing off the mother cradling her cub and delivering a soothing lick. I like this overhead shot because it shows off how powerful her arms and shoulders look, but also highlights the gentle look on her face too.

Comfort by Fenris Lorsrai

A hyena mother pulls her distraut cub up onto her lap to give her a kiss and make it all better.

The hyena's coat patterns are based on the less well known striped hyena, which have a beautiful silver-grey coat. They are more reclusive and gentle than their better known spotted cousins and live in small family groups consisting of a mated pair and their cubs.

Apoxiesculpt over a wire and foam armiture. Painted in acrylic. The shiny finish on the eyes and beads was done with fake water used for building model railroads.

Medium: ApoxieSculpt (synthetic clay), acrylic
Tags: cub kiss hyena hyena snuggle mother sculpture striped
